Welcome to Arise!

My name is James Hawk and I am the Executive Director of ARISE Family Services based in Madison, Wisconsin. ARISE Family Services (AFS) was formed to meet the needs of those suffering from drug and alcohol addiction, mental illness, and those men and women exiting our penal system. Faith based ministries have proven effective in both reaching men and women and reducing recidivism, AODA abuse, and physical abuse.
Our Vision - ARISE is a compassionate, habilitating, inclusive family that restores lives and homes through the life-giving power of Jesus, thereby breaking the cycle of repeated incarceration and building strong families and a safer community.
Our Mission - To inspire life-transformation in previously incarcerated people and their families.
Our Goals are to:
- Help people build spiritually, physically, emotionally, and financially healthy lives
- Restore dignity in individuals and family relationships
- Help people overcome substance abuse
- Eliminate prisoner recidivism
Our Strategies are to provide a continuum of faith-based, biblically grounded support services and systems, which will include:
- AODA counseling
- Christian mentoring
- Job training and career planning
- Money management
- Education
In addition, we intend to provide a network of faith based community residential learning centers to provide:
- Spiritual awareness and growth
- Life skills
- Budgeting skills
- Anger management
- Transitional Living - Short and long term housing programs for men, women, and children
- Social reintegration of prisoners exiting the penal system, with a major focus on eliminating recidivism
- Assessment, evaluation and whole life treatment of a person's:

- Social needs
- Vocational needs
- Educational needs
- Financial needs
We intend to help people address these needs and provide a nurturing, spiritual environment to help promote change, supported by the Christian community.
We are currently partnered with Safe Harbor, and we are actively seeking other faith-based and community entities to help in this valuable work. We are also in need of financial partners.
